MISSION

The mission of the Gentlemen of Ballroom is to support,
preserve, and promote the art of Urban Ballroom dancing and culture
by sponsoring dance workshops, dance exhibitions, and festivals,
educating youth in dance etiquette and seniors in the healthful aspects
of partner dancing; increase male students' self-esteem,
and develop stronger male and female relationships 'one dance at a time'.

What is Urban Ballroom Dancing?
Urban Ballroom Dancing is a smooth, elegant, graceful dance which combines slow dancing, hand dancing, and cha-cha-cha all in one dance. It is danced on the beat of most urban music, some jazz, R&B, and soul. The dance is a partner dance and begins in the social or Greystone position with partners facing and embracing one another. It then proceeds to incorporate the male leading his partner in a series of steps or moves consisting of spins, turns, and half turns all the time maintaining the cha-cha-cha beat to the music. At times, Urban Ballroom also incorporates other dances, such as salsa, foxtrot, rumba and tango steps. The man's job is to show the lady off as he gracefully executes one move to another across the dance floor.
